NSE Of India And BSE Of India

Had there been no BSE of India and NSE of India, the Indian share market would not have existed at all.

Are you aware of the fact that the BSE India owes its origin not to 136 years but several years beyond that? It was in the 1850s that natural environs, especially banyan trees, served as the venues for the earliest stock broker meetings. That is where Horniman Circle is now situated. In the 1860s, the brokers changed base to what is now called Mahatma Gandhi Road. This time again, banyan trees served as the venues. Over time, the number of brokers increased! The shifting continued so is the overflowing in numbers stretching the venues to the streets. And then in the year 1874, the BSE of India found a permanent place - Dalal Street (Brokers' Street).

The NSE India was founded in the year 1990 behest of the Government of India. It was incorporated in November 1992 as a tax-paying company. The genesis of the NSE of India is in the report of the High Powered Study Group on Establishment of New Stock Exchanges of promotion of a bourse by financial institutions.
